about
Persiantown is about the historical events and the human condition that was a result of the war in Iran in the 80s and the Iranian revolution and uprisings.
lyrics
Bi aabi haaye Taabestoon
Bi barghi haaye Zemestoon
Shabaa gorg o mish o naaleh
Roozaa bomb o baroon
Zabdar e chasb roo shisheh
Lek o lek e aaghaajoon
Shabaayeh por setaarah
Roozaa hame roo eyvoon
Water shortage in the Summer
Power shortage in the Winter
Nights, the sound of howling wolves and weeping humans
Days, bombs pouring down
Tape crossed over the window glass
Grandfather hobbling
Nights, full of stars
Days, everyone out on the porch
Ge o Che o Pe o Jhe
Ye o Re o Mim o Lam o Noon
Ge o Che o Pe o Jhe
Ye o Re o Mim o Lam o Noon
☨☨(see explanation at the end)
Aadma por efaadeh
Vali gedaa faraavoon
Bang o chars o hashish o shisheh
Bar o bax hame daaghoon
People are all full of arrogance
But there is poverty everywhere
Leaf and weed and hash and crystal
Circle of friends destroyed
Misaazimet dobaareh
Shaayad hamin Tabestoon
Shabo rooza deraazeh
Shaayad ham ke Zemestoon
We will fix you again
Maybe this Summer
Nights and days are long
Then maybe in the Winter
Ge o Che o Pe o Jhe
Ye o Re o Mim o Lam o Noon
Ge o Che o Pe o Jhe
Nakon enghadeh naaleh
Beshin posht e farmoon
Bezan berim dobaare
Too ootooboonaye Tehroon
Don’t complain too much
Sit behind the wheel
Let’s go again
In the highways of Tehran
Ye rooz meyaaym dobaareh
Hame tooyeh khyaaboon
Par mikeshim dobaaneh
Vali mishim pashimoon
One day we will come again
All out in the streets
We will fly free again
But we will regret it again
Ge o Che o Pe o Jhe
Ye o Re o Mim o Lam o Noon
Ge o Che o Pe o Jhe

The chorus is a word play in reference to the sociopolitical divide between polarized sides in Iran. The Farsi mnemonic, GaChPaJh, which represent Ge, Che, Pe, Jhe, are 4 letters which do not exist in the Arabic alphabet yet do exist in Farsi. This is taught to children in school as a mnemonic when they learn the alphabet. Another mnemonic, Ye, Re, Mim, Lam, Vav and Noon are letters whose pronunciation are altered in Arabic Religious texts under certain contexts. These 2 mnemonics next to each other represent the feuding sides.
